The Badge

I live in a primarily hispanic neighborhood and I find it an odd thing that ever since I started on my new job and I was issued a security badge, while I wear it walking to and from my car on the city sidewalk, no one will look me in the eye. I wonder why this is.

Am I a threat? Don't they read english? Do they think I'm some kind of official? It's weird.
