My Superbowl Weekend

Friday night and feeling like a looser in love because even though one guy in Torrance wants to talk, a gut feeling tells me he's not the one, only a crush, an Aryan fascination of mine for blonde haired blue eyed men, I stay late at work to see if I can finish my P&P, which was requested of me a month ago but couldn't, so a little before 7PM, I bail and head for home. I'm thinking Friday night - movie night so I stopped by Best Buy on the way. I was looking for two movies specifically - Seven Psychopaths and Looper. Best Buy had a deal to where if you let the cell phone guys check to see if yours is upgradable, then they will give you a $5 coupon for a dvd purchase. I'm game. I had to wait around for a rep because the one other guy was helping someone else and the transaction was taking fucking 4ever. I could only find Looper, so I got that and headed to the checkout where I encountered another line and my this time it's 8:45? They close at 9PM on Friday and I was just about to throw down my dvd to the floor and walk out when another checkout lane opened and I was up next. One out of two dvd's acquired and I headed for home.

So Saturday rolls around and, hey it's Groundhog Day and with the freaky hot and icy cold winter we had, I'm am done with it. Thank goodness that damn rodent in PA did not see his shadow. And then there was a news that another earthquake hit Japan this morning. You know what I think? I think as long as Japan keeps having earthquakes, it lessens the chance for California to have a big one. And I say this on 02/02 when it was a seventy-some odd degree days today so no need for long sleeves or a jacket. Now this is my kind of Winter weather...

After sleeping most of the morning away because sometimes, I've just gotta sleep in, I decide I'm hungry and head for the kitchen. And I notice my son has left dirty dishes in the left sink and standing water in the right one where the garbage disposal is. So I must go out and get at least some Drain-o this weekend. I still want that other dvd... what to so, what to do... I know. I'll go to the new Walmart in Irvine. And so I did. And I got the dvd and saw that Looper was a lower price there than at Best Buy so I think they just lost my business for new releases. And I also pick up some chips, salsa and ginger ale for the game tomorrow and they also has loose Italian sausage and the package's serving suggestion was pizza - I can make that. Another great choice for game food. And so I don't have to leave the house again to shop, I got my cats provisions, too. The food, the litter, a new laser pointer. OMG, AC wore herself out chasing the damn thing.

I watched the superbowl munching on the sausage and peppers pizza I made from scratch - take that! Woo! And yes, I was appalled that the lights went out in the superdome...And then the Ravens won. And again, appalled.

At the Movies

I went to the movies on Friday night with my cheapskate lunch date, who bought me a pretzel and Coke at the Arclight. A change in theater numbers left us in the lobby for a bit before the earlier show had ended. We chatted about food, family and work. The concessions stand,  I think, is selling breakfast sausages (chicken and mango and jalapeno or apple) like they sell at Costco by Aidells. Fancy. We had to ask for the mustard because there are no condiments in the lobby anymore.

Argo was almost sold out and he didn't like the remaining seats or the later start time, so we saw Looper. It was the second time for me. I caught more of the details this time around and had to explain the story to my friend who viewed it for the first time.

I'm still looking forward to seeing:

Argo
Cloud Atlas, opening 10/26
Killing them Softly, opening  11/30

Oh, so now it's summer...

Mr. Sunshine finally decided to get off his ass and show up to the party this week in the Golden state. I don't know why the weather is so damn screwed up this year, but it's off and everyone's allergies are acting up. There is not one day that goes by without sneezes, sniffles or noses being blown in my office. That is one thing I hate about working in a cubicle farm - close proximity to sick people I cannot escape.

I went to see "Magic Mike" a couple of weeks ago with a couple of ladies from work. It was OK, not as much skin as I thought a male stripper movie would have and too much love story. It had a lot of hype the weekend it opened, and now- nothing. I was shot in Tampa... there is a distinct look about a Florida sky. I think a few of the scenes in the movie... like partying out on a sandbar and throwing a hurricane party are kind of lost on those people that don't know that is what it's like in Florida.

Having July 4th in the middle of the week this year sucked.

This past weekend, someone else rear-ended my SUV on the freeway. Nice, huh? My car's not even a year old and I get hit again. I'm starting to feel like I've got a target on my back. The other vehicle? Crumpled. Mine? A trim panel fell off of the bumper and that bumper it also scratched up.

What else??

Movie Night: 05/20/2011

I went to see Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Friday night after work and found the movie full of action scenes to exploit the 3D fad, but lacking somewhat in a well flowing storyline. It kind of chugged along slowly in a few places with gratuitious chase scenes, but in the end with a slight twist, it still met it's goal. Penelope Cruz gave a good performance as Jack's new-old flame and their tension on the screen was a highlight as was the special effects with the mermaid scene. Another twist I won't give away. Overall, an enjoyable summer romp with familiar characters living up to their nasty reputations. Go see it.

The Epic Battle of the SNL Alumni Summer Movies

I have not started to count the endless stream of movies ads on billboards I'm bombarded with on my 72 mile drive to work and back along the 5 freeway. But I have noticed something curious, or maybe even ironic. Traveling north right before you enter the City of Commerce, there is a billboard for a Mike Myers movie called "The Love Guru".

While traveling south and again entering the City of Commerce, there is a billboard for Adam Sandler's summer farce "You Don't Mess with the Zohan".

Umm, wake up fellas... I have no desire to watch either of you in these movies. I don't want to see an undercover hairstylist blowing anything but hair nor any kind of therpist being remotely funny.

Try, try again.

Movies, movies, movies

After dinner, Drama Boy realizes that he is truly feeling too ill to attend a birthday party at a bar his friends are at and decides rest and relaxation at home is called for. He makes vodka drinks and tells me to pick out a movie. It's Saturday night and I'm feeling my need for crime drama. I pick,"The Usual Suspects". SOB, Benicio Del Toro looked so good in that movie, mmm. We get maybe 30 minutes into the film and Drama Boy and I get to talking about movies in general and I said I picked this one because I have not seen it before, but I like sci-fi. He says go pick a sci-fi. I go to the hall wall where the movies are and I'm struggling because to be honest with you, he's got more chick flicks than I do. So it takes me about 10 minutes to peruse through his disorganization and I find "The Core" and "Matrix Reloaded". He decides my first choice is sufficient now we're on a discussion about his electronics set-up and we are getting blasted with the four various bass booster settings he's demonstrating. Yes, it's loud, and it sounds fine. Now I realize his ears are plugged up from his cold because it's booming and I find the remote and turn it down a little. In between this all, his little rat dog is also providing its own brand of entertainment trying to settle itself. We end up watching the entire movie chatting and chilling out until 4AM'ish and crash.
