Movie Night: 05/20/2011

I went to see Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Friday night after work and found the movie full of action scenes to exploit the 3D fad, but lacking somewhat in a well flowing storyline. It kind of chugged along slowly in a few places with gratuitious chase scenes, but in the end with a slight twist, it still met it's goal. Penelope Cruz gave a good performance as Jack's new-old flame and their tension on the screen was a highlight as was the special effects with the mermaid scene. Another twist I won't give away. Overall, an enjoyable summer romp with familiar characters living up to their nasty reputations. Go see it.

SO WRONG!

I know April showers bring May flowers, but this is ridiculous. It's been raining on and off for days now and this weekend looks like more rain is on it's way. I think Mother Nature is going to forget Spring and jump right into Summer with reckless abandon. I hope.

...but I work in LA

LA Times Article May 4, 2011

Stupid DA. Sue the company collecting the rent payments! But you don't know that is because it's not a part of the public record. Rental agreements are private between the renter and the rentee. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the known slumlord realtors in LA are the same ones renting these REO's out.

A bright, bright sunshiney day

I think Old Man Winter has finally gone away from California. It was in the 80's both days this weekend even though it was pretty breezy. I pulled more weeds from my patio flowerbeds. I replanted the thyme and basil I bought at the bodega on Saturday. They were both dry and pot bound. They seem to be perking up. I also took the new growth out of the aloe vera plant. The new growth seemed to be choking the main plant. We'll see if it perks up this week. My three tomato plants are OK so far. Two have flowers and one has tiny tomatoes already starting to show.

I called for an appointment to get an estimate for new windows on my condo. Well, two new windows and two new sliding glass doors. It's all I got. The first estimate was botched and had to be written again with a different product and different installation method. I'm not happy with the price which was over $6k. I'm going to call for more estimates.
